Don’t miss it

“Don't miss it!”

You're standing on the free throw line, thinking about the consequence of missing the game winning free throw.

There’s a voice inside your head that says,

·         What would happen if you didn't make the shot?

·         Will I let my parents down?

·         How are my teammates going to react?

This week at Next Play Basketball Camp,  we are fortunate to have Lauren Ruhl  be our guest coach for the week.  This week’s camp is sponsored by the Power Forward Foundation, a 501©3 non-profit organization that aims to give teenagers and pre-teens access to quality sports programs that will keep them mentally physically and emotionally healthy, and Coach Lauren is helping support the basketball skill building by providing mental skills as well.

Next Play campers are working through Lauren’s Four Day Curriculum, designed to help players better understand the Mind Chatter as she describes it.  Players are receiving coaching both on and off the courts by way of role-playing basketball game scenarios by Coach Lauren and Next Play Coaches.

In short, campers learn how to better focus their mind and energy.  Day 1’s message was, “Choose to be courageous even when you may not be confident.”

Coach Lauren is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and sports psychology clinician with a deep passion for helping athletes and individuals navigate the psychological challenges that come with sports and injury recovery.  Lauren’s career in sports counseling was sparked by a season ending season ending injury while playing college basketball this first-hand experience of overcoming physical and mental hurdles during rehab ignited her commitment to supporting others on their journey to recovery and performance enhancement at Greenepsych, Lauren provides individual counseling and team workshops for athletes sports parents coaches and sports medicines professionals her work is centered around addressing both the mental and emotional aspect of sport and injury recovery.
