Finding Home: Alex Ormond’s Path Wasn’t Straight—It Was Right

Success in basketball isn’t always a straight line. For Alex Ormond, it took courage to step off the expected path—and the belief to find the place where he truly belonged.

At Saint Joseph’s Prep, Alex was surrounded by elite talent. It’s a destination where CYO All-Stars arrive every year, where tens upon tens of players compete for just 15 freshman roster spots, and where earning minutes in the PCL can feel like climbing a mountain. Despite his work ethic and commitment, playing time was hard to come by. After two years, Alex made a difficult but defining decision: to transfer.

That decision led him to SCH Academy—and it changed everything.

What Alex found wasn’t simply a new program. He found a home. A place where he was wanted. A place where he belonged. A place that felt like family. SCH offered him opportunity, accountability, and belief—and Alex did the rest. He earned his way into the rotation, embraced his role, and steadily grew into a trusted contributor.

That growth showed clearly last night at The Haverford School. While the Blue Devils ultimately succumbed to the home team, Alex delivered his most impressive performance to date. He sparked a fast start by drilling three three-pointers to open the game and finishing a strong layup, playing with confidence, poise, and purpose. It wasn’t just production—it was presence. He ended the game with 16 points.

Along the way, Alex has never forgotten where it all began. A proud product of Saint Helena’s in Blue Bell, Pennsylvania, he represents the values of his community every time he steps on the floor—humility, toughness, faith, and gratitude. That foundation continues to shape the player and person he’s becoming.

His momentum extends beyond the high school season. On the AAU circuit, competing with Next Play Basketball, Alex continues to elevate his game against top regional competition. That progress has drawn interest from high-academic programs, including schools like University of Chicago, recognizing both his on-court impact and the student-athlete he is off the floor.

Whether Alex knows exactly where he’ll land next remains to be seen. Recruiting paths—like development paths—are rarely linear. But one thing is certain: Alex has learned what it means to find the right fit. He understands the value of environment, trust, and belonging.

And wherever his journey leads, he’ll find it again—because when you know what home feels like, you know how to build it wherever you go.
